Our public officials have made many faux pas during the Hurricane Katrina crisis but this is the smartest thing they have done in Jefferson Parish. This was taken in Lafreniere Park where the soccer fields have been turned into sites for depositing the thousands, maybe millions, of trees that were felled by the hurricane in neighborhoods. There are four of these mulch machines operating in four parts of the Park. Dump trucks line up with their tree loads and a crane takes the trees and puts them into the mulcher and the spew you see coming out goes into the mulch pile. I have no idea what will be done with the mulch (perhaps a Japanese company will buy it for particle board), but it is certainly better than burning it. WAY TO GO JEFFERSON PARISH, you did the correct thing with the tree debris.
I have a gallery on my PBase site titled "My New Orleans". I hope to return to each place and photograph for a gallery titled "My New Orleans After Hurricane Katrina."
