Sheltered by the mighty live oaks, they sleep and do not feel the cold of the January of 1815 or the fierceness of the battle or the yearning for family. They are the heroes of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 when the British was defeated on a battlefield just hundreds of yards away from this haloed place. Many British soldiers are buried here, too.
