Domino Sugar Refinery as seen from the Mississippi River

Chalmette, Louisiana

It has been in operation since 1909. The only time it had to shut down was when Hurricane Katrina hit the area in 2005.
It once hired thousands of men but today a lot of the work is done by robots.
The front view of the refinery is more esthestically pleasing with landscaping etc.

Quite a large plant. Sorry to hear that it's been automated. It must still employ a lot of people. Beautiful photo of it. I think I would like this more than the landscaped front.

If you ever saw the process used to "refine" sugar you would be tempted not to use it again.

Makes me sad for our Imperial sugar refinery that closed a few years ago. This one looks very similar to our before they tore it down.

That's an old facility. It's too bad so many don't have jobs. Either this or moving the work overseas. I do like this composition. I do like the rustic feel to this place with a hint of greenery with the palms.
