Ruedi Cleaning Fish

False River, Louisiana

I got out of Dodge today, away from the television and away from the oil gush and went 120 miles upriver to False River where people were partying on their docks, catching fish in the River and waiting for the sun to go behind the yardarm to have a few drinks.

It all makes me think of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Wonderful!

Nice stringer of fish. Fried catfish with some tabasco sauce on it... yum. Love this smiling candid.

great shot! haven't cooked the fish yet...false river got its' name because around 1699, the mississippi changed course and left an 11 mile long lake . the french settlers in the area called it "la Fausse Riviere" and it has kept the name but in the english translation. mz. colleen, have you posted any photos of poopoo kitty?

some cheery smiles there! I wonder how False River got its name.

Coleen, assume that is False River at New Roads. Forty years ago I really hated to leave False River and the Atchafalaya Basin (Baton Rouge based). Gwen Roland has an interesting little book (Atchafalaya Houseboat, LSU Press) on her years of living in the middle of the Basin.

Brings back memories. I used to fish there when I lived in Baton Rouge.

Lets hope nothing happens to the fish to remove that smile off their faces.
