When Oil Became Our Worst Enemy

Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana

The thousands of gallons of oil spewing from the broken well in the Gulf of Mexico since April 20 reached our Louisiana shore today in great amounts. It came in first at one of our most valuable and vulnerable seafood estuaries. It will effect our economy, our health and our lifestyle for years to come.
Not to mention our broken hearts that were just healing from Hurricane Katrina.
HOWEVER, when this oil rounds the Florida coast and heads up the East Coast, you will see heaven and earth moved to keep the oil from the eastern seaboard.

This is the last thinkg your area needed.Makes you feel guilty every time the car needs filling with fuel. Let's hope recent developments will mean an end to the leak at least. Will the lessons be learned though?

It is an outrage how this has been allowed to happen! Off-shore drilling should not be allowed, in my opinion!

Coleen, I would be really upset with what is going on in your area. You people have really been through a lot over the last few years. This area will never be the same and will take a long time to recover if ever. This kind of disaster should never happen anywhere and yet off shore drill goes on all over. The bottom line is the money.. In Alberta we may have a oil spill but it can be recovered. The government is very strict here. Alberta is a very update and beautiful Province to visit..Mountains, lakes, forest and deserts. I really hope things improve there...Ron

Unfortunately you are so correct. It was a Louisiana story, who cares. Let the beaches in Florida get oil, or the outer banks, or the northeast..... Woah that's a major catastrophie. (Sorry this is not intended for you folks that live up there, only the POLITICIANS and MEDIA REPORTERS)

Just heard MUCH speculation about the eastward potential this morning from the NE based media with the find of tar balls in the Keys. NOW they want to focus on it. I understand completely with the backpeddling they did almost two weeks after our flood. I wish we could go back to the days of more LOCAL media and less national and global.
