23rd April 2004

Cry “God for Harry! England and Saint George!"

The caption is for St. George's Day and William Shakespeare’s Birthday(1564)

Today the trees came down. I felt so sad it was awful.
They found a Pigeon’s nest with eggs and a baby.
Like “St. George to the rescue,” they removed the nest.
I compromised and told them to leave one tree standing.
The nest has been placed in it and I have seen the adult visiting.
I hope all will be well.

Priceless image! I studied it before I read the caption. I thought the nest was coming down, but it was also possibly being handed up. You caught the exact moment of transfer!

I am so glad that you are keeping the one tree. What a good heart you have also.

There is a birds nest on my front porch. Every Spring these birds (dont know what kind) return to nest. My husband has wanted to remove the nest due to the mess..of course I will not allow it. Such a joy to see them return.

Chris - trees are OK next to houses .... until they fall onto the house or the roots start to break through the foundations? Pidgeons are funny things and will nest right through until October. Don't think their nests are particularly protected but anything eother bird is. On the farm we're not allowed to cut (trim) the hedges after March because of disturbance to breeding birds ... which I fully agree with!

Great candid and like the narrative. Hope the birds will be OK.
