Lantern things in a dish!

I am sure someone will tell me what these are called.

I saw them forming part of the display as I passed by a luxury kitchen shop in St. Albans.
The woman inside kindly allowed me to photograph them.

They remind me of Lychees!

Actually I think they are tomatillos? Did they have little round cherry sized fruit inside? If so then they are the stuff that green salsa is made from. If not then I guess they are japenese lanterns. Nice shot.

It's called Physalis alkekengi, also known as Japanese laterns
