St. Albans Abbey

For 24 years I was a fireman, mostly at St. Albans. One of our duties was to have knowledge of the risks on our station ground therefore from time to time we had visits and exercises at the Abbey. Having a great love of old buildings, going all over the roof, tower and the interior were of great interest to me.

wow, great shot, a thousand years of
architecture in one photo!
From the Norman tower to the Italianate
spires on the left.

That sounded like a great training
exercise!

Oh I really love churches like this ... you just don't see many of the big beautiful churches by me ... well captured ... good color ... good lighting ... nice sky ... love it!

Thank you all for your kind comments. As I drove to the bottom of the hill I saw the Tower through the trees. I parked the car but found that the view I had seen was no good. I walked up the hill and "bingo" this was waiting for me.

Yes i like the composition - the way the posts mark the path which leads your eye into the picture. Good sky that makes the old building stand out. Good photo!

I, too, am captivated by the rich detail in the building. They don't make 'em like that any more. :) I can just picture you clambering over the roof and through every nook and cranny of that old beauty.

Drop dead gorgeous, Chris. You've captured a perfectly exposed image in the bright sun, without succumbing to the "washout effect," for which I am exceedingly well known! =:)

I love this shot Chris! And I'm drooling over the hundreds of detail photos I could get from that gorgeous architecture. :)

I like the composition with this image! The bright sky and beautiful architecture framed between the green on the right, and the shadowed building on the left! Very cool!
