Mainland Tiger Snake

Yarra River, Melbourne

This snake was slowly moving through the grass at my feet......I didn't see it until I looked down and saw its tail about 2cm from my boots!.....so much for wanting to attack me! In fact many times I have been very close to snakes without knowing it and have even accidentally troden on a couple and never been bitten. It's a myth that snakes want to attack you......why would they want to have a confrontation with a person.....they are likely to come off second best. Yes I have had snakes strike at me, try to bite me and move towards me but this has always been as a last resort......they almost always try to get away first. It doesn't do their tempers any good when I deliberately stand in their way to try and get a good photo!
