A Red-bellied Black Snake(Pseudechis porphyraicus) searches for food in a dried up creek bed. This snake was probing its head into the cracks in the dried up mud, perhaps hoping to find a frog or a skink in not the best of times; 7 years of drought in this area is making it tough on many of the animals that live in the Barmah Forest. Despite this the snake was gravid (pregnant) and was probably only a month or so from giving birth to its young.
