EF 100mm 2.8 Macro

These images are from my first outting with the Canon EF 100mm 2.8 Macro lens. While I got a few keepers, I missed quite a few too. Still on the upslope of a rather steep learning curve for the Rebel. Getting a feel for the DOF issues with this lens and the focusing techniques with this camera are going to take a while. I'm overall impressed with the sharpness of the lens. Also new today was the use of the Speedlite 550EX flash. Comments and suggestions appreciated ~~~ jim

Came across this gallery because I am considering the 100mm for my 5Dmkii. Just wanted to say, really nice pictures that made my day better by looking at them. Thank you for posting them.

I love this gallery! would you care to share some more info about how the pictures were taken? were they taken with a tripod or handheld? did you use the flash directly or via some sort of a diffuser?

Regardless - well done! You've certainly bumped the EF 100mm macro lens up a few notches on my shopping list ;)

I own the Canon Pro 90IS and plan to buy the 300D ... Some much beauty out there !!

Butterflies are wonderful creatures and the pictures here to them justice.
By next summer I hope to have a DSLR (most likely the Canon 300D) and a good macro lense to take my 'garden gallery' (done with a Fuji Finepix) to the next level and match some of the great pictures presented here.
