Pteradactyle before+after editing

Yiti Beach, Oman

This is an example photo taken by the worst lens I have ever owned, a Sigma 500mm/7.2 APO. The top image is the frame as it came out of the camera, a Canon D30. If you click "original" below right you can view it at 1:1. Note the washed out colours and the poor focus/resolution. In chart testing I found that this lens could not resolve better than 35 lp/mm at any f-stop. The bottom image is what I managed to eke out of it after extensive editing. At 1:1 you see too many artifacts in the edited image, but it actually gives quite a pleasing print on semi-matt paper at about 8 or 9" wide. Try clicking "large" below right to see what I mean. I find that this image lends some plausibilty to the speculation that birds are descendants of pteradactyles :-) For other stuff peruse my primary website: http://www.samirkharusi.net/index.html
