Conocephalum conicum in Matthiessen State Park
A very "primitive" plant, considered by many as
among the the first plants to transition from water
to land, possibly as early as the late Ordovician
period around 450 million years ago
Oddly enough, the St. Peter Sandstone these plants
were growing on was formed at about the same time
