At Kiholo Bay, fresh cold water from the surrouding lava fields makes its way into the warm salt water of the bay, forming two layers that give it a characteristic opalescence. Here, the flow of fresh water from the surrounding lava shelves can be seen from the turbidity in the upper layers. A number of fish are swimming in these shallow areas.© All images copyright Yves Rubin. Please e-mail for sales/licensing inquiries.
