Us Brits didn't need to know which US state Bretton Woods was in to get our exams; and that's my excuse! Looks like the puddles have yet to dry up from those 1944 rains.

no idea . .but wasn't Dirty Dancing filmed there?? LOL!
northstar3710-Jul-2004 06:53
It looks chilly there in any case!

I'm too late,as usual, others brought the answer. But what was not said is that at the same time the Internatiuonal Trading Organisation was foundated and the United States refused to join this, prefering 3 years later to set up the GATT system with 23 other countries, among them Canada.

Hey Robin, nice to see you stirring up trouble on the other coast for a change. Hope you're having a ball!

I love your expression here! and thanks for the history lesson... I missed that section of World History! Hopefully the rain will end soon so that we can see your smile again...!

Posted earlier on this, Robin, but ironicaly my Dad and I had a huge 'discussion' on the Bretton Woods Accords (?) not two weeks ago. 'Interesting' sutff that came out of that conference. Looks like you are having fun regardless of the rain.
Robin Reid10-Jul-2004 04:09
The funny thing is I was scowling because it was starting to rain again.
Cindy10-Jul-2004 04:04
Oh my, you look soooo serious here, as far as your quiz, I get a big fat F, just as I did in history in school! ;-)
Robin Reid10-Jul-2004 03:49
Stewart and Mark win the prize ... and the extra points (although neither answer was perfect.) It is the Mount Washington Hotel at the Bretton Woods resort (which was the name of the conference) and it was in July, 1944 with 733 delegates from 44 Allied nations signing the agreement which reordered the monetary system.
Congratulations to you guys. To Karen for knowing the hotel, and to Jeanne for thinking it is the Hotel New Hampshire!
To the rest of you, thanks for the comments and it is a cool place to visit, and really stands as a great example of the big resort hotels in the East.

You look so serious, like an on scene reporter. "And now we go to Robin, on the scene..."

I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but did a missing Canon 10D show up there today???

Hope your enjoying the getaway, Robin!

One more time, Hotel Washington. Oh who cares what the hotel is named!? LOL. I can't afford to stay there anyway.
brother_mark09-Jul-2004 21:24
No wait, it's the Washington Hotel or the Mount Washington Hotel.
brother_mark09-Jul-2004 21:23
I wasn't finished!!!

2) The Bretton Woods Conference (is this really worth 50pts?)

3) 1944

4) The bastards :-) created the IMF and the World Bank (some other name at first) to improve the international monetary system, promote international trade and re-development of Europe and later under-developed countries.
Herb 09-Jul-2004 21:22
Robin, I know you have that stern look because it is raining again. LOL
Stu09-Jul-2004 21:19
Here are my answers:
1. Don't know the name of the hotel, but it is in the town of Carroll, NH.
2. Bretton Woods
3. July 1944
4. New world economic system, including creation of the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (later to become the World Bank and the Bank for International Settlements).
What do I win?
