Wild chanterelles, edible gold (1st harvest 2006) (HDR)

Awesome harvest today - over 13 pounds (there was more, this was all we could carry)
Cantharellus lateritius - smooth chanterelle, a choice edible mushroom (and we can attest to that).
Banana and a chef's knife for scale.

For the nascent mushroom - hunter: this takes a lot of patience... not a quick and easy find... but persevere.
Best to just enjoy the walk in in the woods. In 2007 we got maybe 2 pounds total from the same places...

They're not as hard to find as you might think, especially in a good year (such as 2006, and 2009 is shaping up pretty well, also). Just takes some patience and perseverance. It's a great feeling when you manage to discover your own "spot." The hard work really comes after finding them, about two hours to clean and trim these...
