December 18, 2006

We have had a great year in 2006. However our happiness seemed shallow when we looked across the world's landscape and saw so much despair and turmoil. So Jill and I initially decided not to send out our customary cheerful holiday letter.

Well, as our mailbox started to fill with so many joyful tidings we changed our minds.

Yesterday, I drafted a little holiday booklet. Jill edited my wording then I printed 103 holiday messages.

We spent this morning cutting, stapling, folding, and signing the greetings.
By early afternoon we were solidly in the holiday mood and our letters were ready for the mail.
We realized that we cannot do much about world turmoil, but what we CAN do is continue to express our own personal feelings of joy.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Well, I'm writing this post holiday. And it definitely looks bleak to me. As a history professor of mine used to be fond of saying, "the pendulum swings one way and then it swings back." I think after the past election it might be swinging back.

Have a great holiday, David and Jill. You are right about the world being in tough shape right now, but I think your response to that is brilliant - bring as much joy as you can to those around you! All the best.
