When traveling the Florida Keys by boat you have two choices of routes.
You can travel the inside route through Florida Bay,
or you can travel the outside route, Hawks Channel, on the Atlantic Ocean.
We traveled the inside route from the Miami area.
Those of you who have been following the trip may remember our stops at Pumpkin Key, Key Largo and Islamorada.
Those were all accessable via the inside route.
There are only three cross-over points from Florida Bay (inside)
to Hawks Channel (outside), for a vessel the size of Shibumi.
After passing Lignumvitae Key on the bay side we decided
to move over to the ocean side via the second cross-over point, Channel Five, for several reasons.
First, we got tired of dodging lobster traps that were peppered throughout the bay.
Second, our next stop after Islamorada would be Boot Key Harbor in Marathon.
The entrance to the harbor is on the ocean side
Our final reason for swapping over to the ocean side was, it is better sailing
on the outside than in the narrow channels of Florida Bay.

Gary, we actually do have a TV on board.

But it uses up a lot of precious electricity and recption is spotty.

That channel sign reminds me -- you must be living without TV. How cool is that?!?!
