Very low water in the canal this morning, caused by the west wind.
Shibumi was aground until the tide came back in.

Shibumi is sitting on her keel, here. In fact, she is heeled over some to starboard.
This extreme low water condition happens at low tide and only when the wind is
blowing out of the west at more than ten knots.

Shibumi draws 4'11" of water. She weighs 41,000LBS, with fuel and water onboard. That makes her a heavy displacement ocean-going craft that has shoal-draft capabilities.
At the time this picture was taken the wind had eased but was still westerly.
Normally our canal has anywhere from 5.5 to 8 foot of water. We always plan our arrivals and departures around high tide.
Shibumi is ready to go. We plan to depart for warmer climes sometime in January.

Nice shot of the Shibumi...........just how deep is the keel on the Shibumi? ....looking at the water, it appears that the wind has died down some.....how deep is the canal at high and low tide? ....just curious :)
