January 3, 2010

In the world of electronic equipment 18 to 24 months can be an eternity. That is why when I had to replace the batteries in a 17 YEAR-old keyless entry device for my Jeep I had to look all over my small town before I could find the correct size of the ancient sources of power.

Where did I find it? Walmart... which, because of the way they treat their employees, I only use as a LAST resort.

Glad you found a battery. Yeah, I'm with you on Walmart. Hate to go there but sometimes you just have to!

Interesting story. It has become quite difficult to bear in mind all the formats that are getting outdated, tapes videos, batteries bulbs, not to speak of electronic formats, and to replace them in time or take precautions for being able to use then longer...

Full Disclosure: I did replace the batteries once before in 2000 or 2001. They were easier to find then.

Jv... the Jeep is "still hanging in there" (ugh I don't like the acronym that phrase creates)... http://www.pbase.com/royalld/jeep_2006

Scott... I agree, Waltmart is a drain on people across the globe on many levels; but the way they treat their employees and the resultant hang-dog atmosphere is immediately evident whenever I walk through their stores.

Interesting that this device has outlived the notion of inbuilt obsolence.

17 yrs... wow, well that lasted a nice long time. Assume the Jeep is too... good story telling shot. Jv

That's what I'm looking forward to. But I have six more years to wait I guess before
I go to Walmart for my battery. It is honorable not to patronize Walmart because of
the way they treat their employees, but there are SO many more reasons. :^((
I am glad you are posting again, I enjoy your pictures and commentary very much.
Thanks Dave
