But at 1,886m (6,187ft) the Puy de Sancy is highest mountain in the Massif Centrale and therefore in the centre of France. We ascended by cable car then walked the rest of the way up to the summit. The nice people have provided steps - but it was still quite hard going in the 30 degree heat. Worth it for the view and the satisfaction of making it to the top of course.
