F-4E 68-338

Rheine-Hopsten

F-4E 68-0338/SL '131TFW' was the commander's aircraft during a 1988-deployment to the German base Rheine-Hopsten (home of JBG36 with F-4F's). Another MiG-killer in 'Coronet Shield'. This particular Missouri ANG F-4E showed two MiG-kills, made in May and September 1972 against two MiG-21's in Vietnam. At the time, the Phantom was TDY with 432TRW at Udorn AB (Thailand). 68-0338 retired on April 27th, 1992 and was last noted on display in St. Louis in 2005.

I crewed that jet on active duty at Eglin AFB back in 1977. Awesome to see it's still around for others to see. It was in an Air Force poster titled Four F-4s over Hawaii too.
