The Thunderbird Dynasty Pole carved by Chief Matthias Joe Capilano and dedicated to the City of Vancouver for its Golden Jubilee in 1936. The pole commemorates the meeting of the Squamish people and Captain George Vancouver near the mouth of the Capilano River in June 1792. The pole was taken down due to rot (carpenter ants) in 1983 and stored in SP yard where it was subsequently consumed by a shed fire - its ashes have returned to the soil." In another account, it says that "the top 14' were donated to the Museum of Vancouver".
