The groundplan is cruciform, for the square temple chamber can be entered from all four sides through projecting porches. Four huge (10m)
standing Buddha images representing Gautama (facing west), Kakusandha (facing north), Konagamana (facing east) and Kassapa (facing south) are
in the centre of the shrine.
According to the Pali tradition, Kakusandha is the twenty-second of the twenty-four Buddhas and the first of the five Buddhas of the present Bhadda Kappa (Aeon).
