Woodwardia virginica

Wonderful native Fern with dark leathery fronds, similar to Cinnamon Fern, but easily identified by the distinctive sori and shiny black stipes.
Rapidly forms a dense groundcover in moist or boggy soils but less assertive in average soils.
Deciduous, 18"-36", Zone 3
