Since Piping Plovers in October are very uncommon in these parts, I took this photo for documentation. These two juveniles almost certainly were born and raised here this summer. I've seen two juvs in the general area (between 1st and 2nd crossovers on the bay side) off and on during the late summer and saw one in the area as recently as Sept 21st. I've birded out there pretty steadily and not seen them since then, but there are plenty of places they could be where I'd not see them and even if they were in view they are pretty well camoflauged - especially on the ocean side sand. Thus seeing them today, 3 weeks later, was a pleasant surprise - a throwback to the summer just like the 80 degree weather we've been having!
