This Pipit sports what I believe is an unusually bright eye ring. The bird was found in the marsh north of High Pines and was very active. It flew short distances walking about for a minute or two and then moving onward. It called occasionally. First of the season for me on the Beach.
I noticed the eye ring in the field and wondered aobut it so I'm glad it showed up in this long distance shot. I know that Pipits can have a subtle eye ring but I don't ever recall seeing one so pronounced, and so I am investigating. If I learn anything about the frequency that one can expect to see this field mark so well, I will update this description.
