Feb 14 - Owl baby

Arthur R Marshall NWR view map

One of my children's favourite books was "Owl babies" - one of my favourites too!

Only one baby in this picture, but it still reminds me of the book. I don't know whether it hatched since my last pictures on Friday, or whether it was just not visible then.

I don't think the mother's eye is injured - it's fully open in some other pictures I have from the set, though it is closed in most. I think she's just sleepy.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II ,Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM
1/100s f/8.0 at 1400.0mm iso400 with Flash, stacked teleconverters full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

What a terrific portrait from the wild!! Vote. Is the mother winking or only one-eyed? Love this capture.
