My first venture into digital photography was this Sony Mavica purchased in 1998. Because of its low resolution images I concluded digital photography was a flawed format and would never replace film!
The well made MVC-FD71 recorded 640x480-pixel JPEG or BMP image files on then readily available 3.5-inch floppy discs. Its ten power zoom lens is the 35mm equivalent of 40-400mm. There was no optical viewfinder and images had to be composed using a 6.35cm (2.5-inch) LCD monitor which was extremely difficult to see in bright daylight.
The Mavica series of camera became popular with commercial firms such as insurance and realty companies.
Because most computers no longer have 3.5-inch floppy disc drives, this camera has rapidly become an antique.
