The sun is just above the horizon as the 189 train, Extra 5306 West, approaches Belva. The train was powered by two SD40-2's and a SDP40F.
By 1989, it was rare to see a way-car or caboose at the end of a train. They'd been replaced by the ETD, or End of Train Device, which transmitted telemetry data to the locomotive.
