Double-crested Cormorant

These birds, once unheard of in the Ottawa area during summer, are now nesting locally and have been a common sight this summer. Their numbers seem to have exploded within the last two years. This is similar to the situation with the once unheard of Black-crowned Night Heron and Great Egret, both now nesting locally, the former now being common (saw one today!) and the latter not common but very likely to be seen without effort at some point during the year (saw one today!).
