Some of you may remember my recent posting titled “I Remember” with a photo of the license plate from my grandfather’s car. While I was writing up the description for that posting I was thinking about the good ol’ days of life in my hometown and with that came the usual sad thoughts of how my hometown doesn’t exist anymore (it was involved with a municipal merger) and how I was never able to preserve any pieces of the town through photos of certain scenes and photos of things with the town brand on them like the street signs before they disappeared forever.
Well, in what I can only describe as a supernatural coincidence, my uncle, who is currently in my hometown temporarily, called while these thoughts were going through my mind to tell me that the local historical society had acquired all the old town street signs, which were taken down two years ago, and was selling them earlier that day to raise money for their museum. As a gift for me, he had bought this sign for the street my family lived on from 1954 until 2003. Talk about a coincidence! Years of sad thought that I was never able to preserve stuff like this through photos came to an end right then and there.
The books below I also acquired recently. I didn't intend for them to be in this photo, but that's where they have been since I got them, on the floor waiting for me to figure out where to put them. But they do give a sense of what I like to read. My bookshelves are currently overflowing with books, so I either have to get rid of books, which is painfully hard to do, or get more shelves, which I don't really have space for!
