Just Another Cowboy

Vernon, British Columbia

Barbara and I went to "Cowboy Days" at the O'Keefe Ranch and we managed to make some decent images of
the cowboys competing. This is not really a 'rodeo' but more of a fun competition between various
local ranch hands. These are the real cowboys, the men who do this for a living every day out on the
range. There were cowboys from the: Coldstream Ranch, the Quilchena Ranch, the Douglas Lake Ranch, and
several others. Seven in total, represented as 3-men teams.

Excellent portrait, Fred. The choice of B&W adds greatly to the atmosphere. Also, the zoom all the way out and the lens wide open blurs the background just the right amount to emphasize the figure of the rider and merges with the dust (the dust superbly evokes the sense of place!). V

what a wonderful old west picture...love the expression on his face without seeing those eyes, his posture on the road and his style of riding the horse. The black and white gives a great touch.

Beautiful! You can see that this is a real ranch hand - his horse is calm and intelligent-looking, not crazed and sliding around on his butt. Wonderful shot - Voted.
