This shot was taken during our September 2003 trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks. I hadn't been
shooting too long and had only made the switch to slide film a few months earlier. This was taken at
sunrise at Pyramid Mountain in Jasper NP and is one of my favorite shots taken that trip. I'm sure
many of you remember Fred's image posted over at PT from this sunrise, but I haven't posted mine
until now.
Since I was still new to photography, my composition wasn't the best--the shoreline was placed dead
center, so I've taken the liberty of cropping a little off the top and from the left to make a more
pleasing comp. My arsenal that day consisted of one +2 ND grad which I used to take this. In looking
at the reflection, a +1 would have been a better choice or simply using a polarizer as Fred did. Oh
well, I learn best from my mistakes. (And all the more reason to return to Jasper, lol.)
My favorite thing to do this time of year is dream of where we might go in the spring and
summer--looking forward to exploring and photographing where ever that might be.
