Tomato Horn Worm

yard

I'd gotten ahead on tomato picking and so decided to let the next batch sit on the vine for a week or two before I went out to pick. Unfortunately, the vast majority of what was left was eaten. Most the tomato fruit had about a third of a side eaten off, like some starving bunnies must have raided my small plot. On closer examination, however, I found a half dozen of these little beasts. Well fed, they are almost the size of cigars; way too big to squish.
The only real consolation is that they mature into the cool sphynx (or hummingbird) moth.
