A small shy Macaw which has been heavily persecuted in the past for the pet trade. Not easy to approach, the birds in the above image were coming in to roost in coastal Moriche Palms at Nariva.

Previously the much larger Blue-and-yellow Macaw was native to Trinidad -it was hunted out for the pet trade but a re-introduction programme is currently underway in Nariva swamp, a project which is actively being supported by Dundee University.
