This building was the Virginian Railway's "tower" at South Norfolk where the Virginian and N&W mainlines crossed at grade. The single track would've run across gravel area in the foreground with the former N&W mainline visible behind the tower. The structure was built in the 1940's and replaced a wooden two-story tower that stood in the northwest quadrant of the diamond were the Virginian crossed the N&W mainline at grade. The diamond was removed in August 1969 and the tower was demolished in November 2012.
