Railfire Photography

Welcome to Railfire Photography!  My interest in photography stems from documenting railroads and fire apparatus which are my two primary hobbies, hence the name. When I'm not trackside or at a fire station, I work full-time in emergency vehicle sales.

In my spare time I’m a freelance author and photographer and contribute to many different publications in both the emergency vehicle and railroad industry on a regular basis. Over the last several years, hundreds of my images have been published in a wide variety of media.

I also operate another website entitled Rails in Virginia. This venue is well-known to many railfans and historians throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Two unique features of the site are the detailed railfan guides that are available for download along with the "Abandoned Rails" section that details many unique aspects of Virginia's railroad history.

With regards to equipment, I shoot with a variety of Canon professional grade bodies, L lenses, and other accessories. I hope you enjoy the material I've selected and check back often for updates. You may contact me via e-mail at jl.hawkins@comcast.net.
