Jack moved many, many times in his life. After his father died, he and his mother kept moving between New England, Florida, and California. A classic case of the grass is greener elsewhere, but when you get there, all your problems came with you. Jack and his mother (and I think wife Stella) first lived in the house on the right, 5155 10th Avenue North, from 1964 to 1966. After living in NE again for awhile, they came back and bought the house next door, 5169, in 1968. Only about a year later, Jack was rushed out of the front door that you see, never to return. He died the next day in the hospital, October 20, 1969.

The old man is me, Paul Verizzo, and the pretty young woman is my youngest daughter, Alexa. Pictures taken in March of 2003.

The house is still owned by John Sampas (as of 3/2003), brother-in-law and executor of Jack's estate. See the tax information from Pinellas County.

MARCH 12, 2007: Happy 85th, Jack! I hold in my head your scroll close by at the Denver library, casketed in glass, your tomb bursting from cold Massachusetts soil, here, for all of us to see your unbounded timeless soul, the undecayable Jack Kerouac. "Safe in Heaven Dead."
