Example of Noise and Noise Removal with ISO 1600 Image

This image was taken in a VERY dim church where flash was not allowed. I had no tripod with me so at ISO 1600 I hand-held the camera at 1/40 sec.

The original image is the full-size jpg file without modification. The second image is the same with NeatImage noise removal applied using a profile for the 300D at ISO 1600.

The crops are 100% from these first two files. The second set of crops is the same but with PS USM applied at 0.3/200/0 to show how sharpening is possible on the "denoised" image but exaggerates the noise in the original image.
