Wild Grass

Santa Susana Pass Rd, CA

* 7-27-06 *

The kids & I took old Santa Susana Pass back to Simi today,
& it was rather depressing to note all that is still fried
from the Topanga Cyn/Simi Fire that took place months ago ~

I took pictures of lone oak trees, fried manzanita bushes &
someone's huge charred Christmas tree that was planted next
to their drive way. The saddest was the remnants of a home
at the corner of Box Cyn & Santa Su ~ from wandering about,
you could see that it was a family with children & all they
had worked so hard for was a complete loss; truly tragic.

I played with some of the shots, but ended up finishing this
shot of some wild grass growing out of the canyon wall. I'm
not sure if I'll post any of the others yet.. I rarely post
things that are not pleasant (or odd/fun) in some manner, as
there is enuf ugly in the world. I dunno, I'll have to think
on it. For now, enjoy the grass (unsmoke-able, lol) ~

Very nice shot Colleen; it looks like a type of foxtail. Vote.

Nice capture and comp. As far as the fire goes, it's sad when it involves humans but as in nature it gives one the opportunity to start fresh. Take the same drive next year and it will probably be filled with beauty. V

Lovely shot. The grass renews itself unlike manmade things.

I like your choice, but I can feel for the folks who have lost their belongings to a fire without seeing it.
