Mr. Willis Keys & Ranger Pam

Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, Ca

This had to be one of the MAIN highlights of this trip for me.
David set up a tour guide trip for us to the Keys Ranch/Desert Queen
Historical Site. Of course, this was going to be great, to see how
the people lived back in the late 1800's/early 1900's in such a land.

The icing on the cake was when Ranger Pam told us that she had a special
treat for us. Mr. Willis Keys, the son of William Keys (original owner
of Keys Ranch) was in town and on site!! He came down & spoke for quite
a while, answering questions & giving us his first hand memories of what
it was like to be born & raised here at his homestead, the Keys Ranch.

He spoke very fondly, often with his eyes gazing in a distance as spoke,
almost as if he were re-living the stories he was telling. I was just
tickled & had to shake his hand afterwards & tell him what an honour it
was to be able to meet him. It was like he took me on that trip back
in time with him and for such a trip, I will be forever grateful.

Thank you, David. Thank you, Mr. Keys. Thank you, Ranger Pam.

I've got to get over there next time.
Though I've been to JT many times, I never got to the ranch.
