This is the beach where we stopped for a leisurely BBQ lunch. In the background is one of the small settlements of farms, only accessible by boat, that we saw from the ferry. Further along the fjord is the location of an old village that twice lost nearly all of its population -- once to the black plague and once to a wave of immigration to America. Also learned that it is possible for the fjord to freeze; there is a deep enough fresh water layer on the salt water that allows this to happen in the coldest winters.
