Greek Theater

Best Viewed In Original Size

The Greek Theater was designed by architect Marcus Burrows and opened in 1915. It is a full size stone replica of a classic outdoor Greek theater
setting nestled in a mature pine forest. Believed to have been inspired by the ancient theatre ruins near Mt. Taormina, Sicily, the Cranbrook
Greek Theatre is one of only a handful of theatres in the country designed in this style. It seats over 400.

The original elements include the amphitheatre, the stage area, and the reflecting pool, which is graced by the statue of Persephone
in the next photo.

Last month I came across a photo of my mother's, taken back in the day when that reflecting pool in the background had not yet been filled in and served its original function as a place to swim. Ah, but to be a time traveler!
