Photographed at Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park
A beautiful brilliant red scarlet wildflower with a limited geographic distribution in California, Nevada, and Oregon. When a
fortunate hiker comes across the brilliant red scarlet plants, he will generally be greeted by several individual snow
plants occurring as a small colony. Its name derives from the striking red flower that emerges from the
sometimes still snow covered ground in early spring.
