St. Michael's Mount is a rocky island five miles south of Penzance in Cornwall. It is an 11th century stone Benedictine priory and a royal
fortress from 1194. Surmounted by an fortress-like abbey dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, this atmospheric sacred site
has much in common with its namesake across the channel, Mont-St-Michel in France. It is considered to be the jewel in
Cornwall's crown.
