Mirrored, Antelope Island, Utah, 2006

Antelope Island is reflected in a mirror-like channel of the Great Salt Lake, creating a huge finned rocket tinged in reddish gold. I made sure to anchor the image with the rock- strewn foreground. Without this foreground, the reflected image would lack context and become static.

Such a clear reflection with your amazing visualisation. As if it's suspended in the air, just like what Cecilia well said, it's taking off our mother earth. Phil, this is another excellent example of your choice of foreground to create context and expression. How many of us would easily shoot the reflection without it!

I am delighted to stimulate such thoughts, Ceci, with this image. Yes, it is a rocket, and yes, the foreground could represent the demise of civilization. You have a marvelous imagination, and this image is apparently a perfect match for it. Thank you.

This marvelous image seems to me to be a great rocket way in the future, in flight over the earth, complete with needle nose, fins and tail. It's one of the strangest illusions I've seen in a while, and even knowing what it actually is, still this X-rated thing leaps out at me. The rock-strewn shore is what's left of civilization. A fantastic and surreal photo, filled with mystery.
