Buried, Fish Haven, Idaho, 2006

This abandoned automobile was buried in a sea of dried bushes, standing so high that they obscured its windows. I photographed through the screen of bushes, and found the sun glinting off of one of its heavily stained windows It was almost as if the old car was trying to summon energy from the sun for one more run.

I like your idea of a "last chance of glory." There we were -- eight of us, all photographing this old car. Would we have stopped to photograph a new car, parked on the street? I don't think so. But we were all moved by the sight of a car in its last stages of existence. And yes, in way, our photographs will bring it the glory you speak of. Thousands of viewers all over the world will see this car on our websites (you can also see Tim May's image of athttp://www.pbase.com/mityam/image/68554605 ) , giving it a rousing send-off.

A beautiful touch of light indeed. Perhaps its last chance of glory, to be found and photographed before its full disappearance. Its painted surface started to peel and rust further, buried in the earth in the same color as the bushes.

Once again, Jenene's words energize an image -- a rusting car becomes a gilded barge, and a field of weeds becomes a river of reeds. Together, we've made rot and decay into a glorious dream!

It's as if this old car is a gilded barge gliding smoothly along a river of reeds. The light and color are dreamlike.
