Winecasks, Girardet Winery, Roseburg, Oregon, 2006

I made this image of the Girardet wine casks with the help of a reflection on shiny aluminum winemaking machinery. (I can barely make out the very slim photographer just to the left of center.) The gold color adds warmth, while the reflection squeezes multiple casks into a single image. The round door on the aluminum machinery echoes the round casks and links the dual subjects within a single plane.

Thanks for being the first to comment on this reflected image, Zandra. I did not dwell on my purpose in the caption, leaving it up to you to find your own meaning in it. But here are some hints-- both the aluminum machine and the wood casks are industrial symbols to me. The large wheel at the bottom links today's gleaming equipment with the traditional wooden wine cases of yesteryear. The slim photographer appears as a metaphor for man -- is he the master of the industrial world of yesterday and today? Or is he its victim? Questions for you to consider as you search for your own link to the meaning of this image.

This image reminds me of those mirrors which distort the surounding based on how they are bent. It makes me a bit dizy almost looking at it. Yes i do see a slim photographer there :) I liek the distortion made nd that it is a differnet shot of vine cags then we usually see. How you managed to squeeze in several cags in to one fram du to photographing the reflection. It also gives us an view of the interior. It is aplesent picture to look at but difficult in term of human values. It does remnd me of my child hood and the time spent in amuzment parks looking at our distorted images in th emirrors but i bet that was not what you were going for her :) It would be interesting to read your thoughts and ideas behind this photo. I liek it, but i can not disipher it as i usually do with your photos... it bothers me that i cant. I belive i will come back to this one Phile. I'll have to look at it several times, find the connection, the link which will trigger me.
