Maison du Roi. Brussels, Belgium, 2005

The Maison du Roi, once the administrative center for Flander's ruling Spanish kings, is now home to the city museum. It is just one of the ornate 400 year old structures surrounding the Grand Place, at the core of the old city. I photographed it on a cloudy morning, using backlight to abstract the tiny figures that seem to be dancing around its spires. Because these figures were so small and so high above me, I used a 240mm medium telephoto focal length to make this shot.

Most photographers are consumed by the "what" and rarely ever consider the "why" and the "how".

Yes, thanks for the reminder of "how" and "why" because I'm always looking for "what".

I am glad that you came to this image, Sonia, and impressed that you took the time to research this building and view it in its entirety on the Internet. I am sure it helped you learn how important our vantage point and lens choice can be. It's not what you shoot that makes the difference. It's how and why you choose to shoot it.

Acrobats dancing on top of an administrative center? Makes me wonder if the adminstrators back then were really adminstrating.
I searched the building online, the vantage point and the use of telephoto lens here is incredible, and it makes the images very incongruous.
